What is Web 2.0?

One understanding of Web 2.0 is that it is diferentiated from earlier versions of the Web by encouraging a culture of 'user as producer' rather than 'user as consumer' of content. This is one characteristic of Web 2.0 tools. Other characteristics have been identified by JISC:

The web as a platform
An architecture of participation
Data consumption and remixing
A rich, interactive, user-friendly interface
Elements of social netwroking
